Procrastination

Kearl mentioned how disappointed he was when he would see his students doing homework right before class. He said this showed that these students were not making the most of their education. If we really cared about our education, we would take the time to think about what we're learning from our homework instead of merely just filling it out.

It's so true though. If we were really interested in the stuff that we were learning, we wouldn't wait last minute to do homework or study for the class. I wish I was reminded of this in the beginning of the semester. I was a total procrastinator this past semester...actually, I have been a total procrastinator all of my life.

Another regret of mine is making the most of my education. I wish I would have been way more passionate about school, considering I'm almost done with college.

The Last Two Days of School

Monday: Dressed up like a school girl, found out that my econ teacher's husband passed away two years ago, went for a run around the outer perimeter of BYU for the first time in awhile, watched Lars and the Real Girl and The Muppet Movie (polar opposite movies).

So I had no idea that there was a bombing in the Boston Marathon when I went running, yet I wore all black when I went running. How appropriate. 

Lars and the Real Girl was actually a really good movie. These are my favorite lines from the movie:

Lars Lindstrom: How'd you know?

Gus: How'd I know what?

Lars Lindstrom: That you were a man

...

Gus: Well, it's not like you're one thing or the other, okay? There's still a kid inside but you grow up when you decide to do right, okay, and not what's right for you, what's right for everybody, even when it hurts.

Lars Lindstrom: Okay, like what?

Gus: Like, you know, like, you don't jerk people around, you know, and you don't cheat on your woman, and you take care of your family, you know, and you admit when you're wrong, or you try to, anyways. That's all I can think of, you know - it sound like it's easy and for some reason it's not.

 The Muppet Movie is a whole other story haha. I could not stop laughing though. It's such a ridiculous movie. Here's my favorite quotes from this movie:

Tuesday: No Chinese class, had to do student ratings before my mission prep teacher could reach his office, went to Kearl's last lecture even though I'm not in his econ class anymore, helped my roommate pick her classes for Fall.

He pretty much gave the best advice I have ever received from a teacher. Let me list some of his advice:
- It's all about the "habits of the heart." Make charity a habit of the heart.
- Take hard classes. Make the best of your education at BYU.
- Fall in love with at least two things at BYU: 1) Someone possibly and 2) an idea.

The End Result: Love

This past Sunday, I was reading through songs in the hymn book before Church. I noticed that a lot of the hymns concluded with the concept of love or the heart. It made me think, maybe the end result of everything should be love. I believe that we have successfully learned if we learned to love. If there's anything that we learn from our experiences and the people we meet, love should be at the top of the list.

It was then that I had one of those light bulb moments. So, I have been trying to figure out how to get closure from BYU. I have been bugging out about it for weeks. It wasn't until I flipped through hymns that I figured out how to get closure: I just need to love.

Ok, I need to say how superb the music devotional was this past Tuesday. Definitely best devotional of the semester. When Men's Chorus sang "I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go" and the combined choirs (Men's Chorus, Women's Chorus, Concert Choir, and BYU Singers) sang "Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee," and "Did You Think to Pray" I teared. The combined choirs performed amazingly as well at General Conference. Their voices are so pure. I'm so jealous.

Pride: The Root of All Evil

It's so true. If pride were wiped off the face of the planet, this world would be pretty close to perfect. We wouldn't have the issues that we have today.

I'm pretty sure every mistake I made stemmed from pride. I'm a total hypocrite when it comes to pride. Actually, I'm a hypocrite with a lot of things. I get annoyed when people flaunt their pride, yet I'm prideful in my heart. My goal after General Conference was to let go of my pride...yeah that hasn't been going well.

Pride is the most prevalent, unrecognized sin out there. We all have pride to an extent, except for Jesus and probably the prophets and apostles. When we do get prideful, we usually don't (or are not willing to) recognize it. Pride just happens. Why is it so easy to fall into pride?

I'm writing this just to vent.

Bednar culturing Perry with the fist bump. Nelson looks like he really wants a fist bump too. If the apostles can fist bump, I'm going to replace "the handshake" with "the fist bump" while I'm on my mission.

I think Elder Nelson was "the stud" of General Conference. He likened missionary work unto surfing. Nelson totally deserves a fist bump for this.

Roommate Quotes of the Weekend:

Cassie: "We believe that we should not have sexual marriage before matrimony."

Me: "Please excuse my companion, she doesn't know what she's talking about. We actually do believe in sexual marriages. That's how we make babies."

Ok...here's the context for this quote. I asked Cassie if I could teach her a lesson for my mission prep class. She said yes and she said that I should teach the lesson on the law of chastity. She then pretended to be a missionary giving a discussion on the law of chastity. This is the first thing that came out of her mouth. She meant to say "sexual relations" by the way.

Things that make me happy.

I'm writing this hoping that I can get rid of these mood swings I typically get at the end of the winter semester. Well here's things that make me smile:

- Running into old acquaintances/friends and talking to them for at least half an hour
- Going to the temple
- People that can make me laugh (life without humor is nothing...at least to me)
- When you know that it's no coincidence that some events in your life happen
- Children (not "immature college students" children, but real children)
- Chocolate
- Completing a good run
- Eating macaroni and cheese (I'm addicted)
- Chicken nuggets from Chick-fil-A
- Watching "Surf's Up" - this movie never fails me. It's my go-to movie when I need to smile.
- Just hanging out with super awesome people
- The sun
- Being in nature
